When we enjoy what we do, we
do it well. If you are not enjoying yourself and having fun at
work, it will be hard to:
* Stay
motivated.
* Stay
focused.
* Maintain
the energy needed to do your best.
There's a common conception that
fun and humor are counterproductive to work. If we are laughing,
smiling and enjoying ourselves, we must be goofing off. Right?..Well,
not necessarily. When used productively, humor can be a powerful
tool that will allow you to:
* Increase
productivity.
* Improve
your marketing efforts.
* Improve
sales.
* Motivate
your employees.
* Increase
your creativity.
* And most
importantly, reduce stress.
Humor is a universal social lubricant
that brings all of us together. I don't know about you, but I
can't think of one single person who doesn't like to laugh!
So how can we use humor to make
ourselves more productive in business? Often, humor is spontaneous.
Something light and funny hits us unexpectedly and we humorously
enjoy the moment. However, humor can also be intentional!
When you create an environment
for your employees and yourself that is fun, you are influencing
their attitudes. Fun and humor energize us, and energy encourages
productivity.
As the employer, it's up to you
to set the pace. When we create a working environment that is
fun, we attract employees who are motivated, relaxed, open-minded,
energized, and who care about our companies. All of these add
up to productivity, profitability and low turnover for your business.
When we cultivate humor as a
natural part of us, many aspects of our everyday lives can improve
mental function, thought-process, creativity, our sense of physical
well-being, our relationships, outside interests, and lifestyles.
In addition, it can improve our work, our companies, and our
careers. Humor can be a wonderful elixir, and best of all, it's
free.
